Life Sciences
Sweden and Brazil also share a strong commitment to health sciences. Universities, such as USP, and research institutes, such as the Karolinska Institute in Sweden and Fiocruz do Brasil have a long history of cooperation in life science research. Life Science is an area that comprises the scientific disciplines that involve the study of living organisms, such as plants, animals and humans, and related issues such as bioethics. Although biology is the fundamental topic of the life science, technological advances in molecular biology and biotechnology, as well as open innovation, have enabled several specializations and new interdisciplinary fields. In the Swedish-Brazilian case, the focus is in innovation with the participation of industries, research institutes and universities in both countries in different areas such as e-health, telemedicine, artificial intelligence, prevention of pediatric obesity and tropical diseases.
The Sweden-Brazil Innovation Weeks is an annual activity held by Team Sweden Brazil and coordinated by the Swedish Embassy in Brasilia. Life Sciences is one of the priority areas.
